Since 1966, RiverValley Behavioral Health has been a stabilizing, nurturing force for the communities it serves. We currently host over 21 Kentucky based programs that include dozens of outpatient services and a child and adolescent in-patient service for those with mental health, mental retardation/developmental disabilities (MR/DD), alcohol and drug addictions, prevention, recovery, and treatment.

Greater Owensboro

Greater Owensboro is the business, retail, medical and cultural hub of the western Kentucky region. Strategically located on the Ohio River in northwest Kentucky, the region has access to several major highways with convenient access to the Henderson, Kentucky - Evansville, Indiana area; Louisville, and Nashville, Tennessee. Education

Two public school systems, Owensboro Public Schools and Daviess County Public Schools, plus the Owensboro Catholic School system comprise the K-12 education system in the community. Heritage Christian and Majesty Christian operate Christian schools providing education from preschool to middle school and preschool to high school, respectively.


Owensboro is home to two four-year liberal arts colleges — Brescia University and Kentucky Wesleyan College. Each has an enrollment of approximately 800 students.Owensboro Community and Technical College is one of 13 colleges in the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) and is one of the fastest growing colleges in the system. Western Kentucky University offers extensive undergraduate and graduate programs at its Owensboro campus. Murray State University also offers classes in Owensboro.

Owensboro MSA median housing cost is 87% cheaper than national median cost and 12% cheaper than Kentucky median cost of owner-occupied homes (American Community Survey, 2006).

Owensboro’s MSA is among the 100 lowest median owner-occupied housing costs of all MSA’s in the country.

Kentucky’s median value of owner-occupied housing in 2006 ranked 7th lowest nationally:  Kentucky ranked 21st in home ownership rate for 2006 (71.7%). The national average homeownership rate was 68.8% (US Census Bureau, Housing Vacancies and Ownership, 2006).

Sports & Recreation

The area has excellent public recreation facilities sponsored and maintained by the Owensboro Parks and Recreation Department, the Daviess County Parks and Recreation Department and Ben Hawes State Park. Facilities include numerous parks, playgrounds, swimming pools, golf courses, a disc golf course, tennis courts, softball and baseball diamonds, basketball courts, nature trails, an ice arena and a new 2.5 mile greenway for biking and walking. There are two softball complexes, a soccer complex, a youth football field and sand volleyball courts. At least four playgrounds are designed for the physically disabled. The Owensboro Sports Center is a 5,500-seat air-conditioned auditorium/arena.

Some of the area's private recreation facilities include three country clubs with golf courses, five swimming pools, 12 indoor movie theaters, three bowling facilities, a large YMCA, the HealthPark and indoor and outdoor tennis courts.
